new release - Saving her Angel

Title: Saving Her Angel
Series Name: Archangels #3

Author: Missy Jane

Description: Eleanor has loved her boss Cam from afar for years, but now he wants to retire and send her away. Tearing her heart out would have been kinder.

Archangel Camael must never fall for a woman. If he does, he’ll lose his angelic powers, and he will age like a human. Protecting humans from evil is paramount and has meant periodically reinventing his identity to avoid rousing suspicion. But as his desire grows for his secretary, Eleanor, duty feels more like a burden, because he can’t imagine starting a new life without her.

He can never fall in love.

A force of evil is wreaking havoc and Cam and his Archangel brothers scramble to determine and thwart the cause. The key lies in Eleanor’s tormenting memories, but if they push her too hard, she might snap. Cam must walk the delicate line between protecting Eleanor, appeasing his brothers, and saving the world.

Funny quote:  "Hey that was only the one time, and you promised not to keep bringing it up.”
“One time?” Cam asked as he walked in. “You’re the reason a clan of immortal Archangels who don’t need to actually eat all keep fire extinguishers in our kitchens.”
“And smoke alarms throughout our homes,” Uri added.
“Whatever,” Sel said as he rolled his eyes. “They came with the houses.”

My review:

4 stars
If you are looking for a love story back dropped by archangels fighting demons this is a book for you. This is the third book in the series though it can be read as a stand alone. There was no having to get up to speed as often happens in series when you read them out of order. The link between them is that if they fall in love they can no longer be an Archangel and must fall. Even with the dark background story most of the love story is a welcome lightening of the story. The background story  is all about angels, archangels and the battle against evil. The author introduced some of the theology of angels in a easy to read manner. For example her talking of Watchers and whether or not they are supposed to act on what they see or just observe is something people interested in angels could argue about for years. Her Watchers appear to be the same as a guardian angel.

I am looking forward to going back and reading the first two books, as well as reading the future books in the series. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a love story involving angels or one with a very low heat rating. There is more than just kissing but it is not very graphic. This book would be acceptable for YA readers up to senior citizens.

Author Bio:
Missy Jane is the alter ego of a married mother of four who was born and raised in Texas. She spends most of her time lost in worlds of her own making, alternately loving and hating such creatures as vampires, shape-shifters, sexy Archangels, and gargoyles (to name a few). When not writing, she spends her time reading, taking photos of her beautiful daughters and training her husband to believe she's always right.

A Time of Torment (Charlie Parker, #14)A Time of Torment by John Connolly
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is my first book by John Connolly and it certainly won't be my last. It took me a little bit to keep track of who we were reading about as it jumped from character to character. It was easier than many books I have read that used this method to tell their story. This was since it isn't written in first person. This book is very well-written and typo free.
I liked the paranormal aspect of the story. Since I hadn't read any of the other books in this series I expected a straight detective//P.I./mystery story. Instead I found a book that included FBI, local police, supernatural beings masquerading as human, true evil and those who battled it. I found the style of writing as well as the subject matter to be similar to the writing of Stephen King or Peter Straub. This book clearly shows a battle between good and evil. Evil is destroyed or atleast believed to be. Charlie isn't all good but he uses everything he has to battle against those who do evil.
I would recommend this book to anyone liking mysteries and the supernatural. I received this book free from netgalley.com in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Order in the Court

Order in the Court (The Survivor's Club, #2)Order in the Court by Casey Lawrence
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Order in the Court by Casey Lawrence
5 stars

This is book 2 in the YA series by Casey Lawrence. She is just getting better and better. I really, really liked the first one but I absolutely loved this one.I found that things flowed much smoother in this book. This book is about the final end of childhood for Corey. In this book she is hit by the fact her parents can't fix everything and life is unfair especially when lawyers get involved. Her safe places are invaded and there is nothing anyone can do to keep these things at a distance. On the other hand it is not purely hopeless, she made a couple of new friends, she holds on to the friendship of the two boyfriends left behind. They form the survivors club a place for the three of them to remember the good times, to focus on something other than the murders.
Corey grows and discovers she has more inner strength than she ever thought she did. She works through her grief and has found some peace by the end. This is a coming of age book where Corey has to growup faster than her classmates, despite being a year younger. I would recommend this book to most young adults. This may be triggering to especially sensitive readers as it includes Corey'scounrt testimony and several panic attacks. Her pain comes through clear. I received this book free in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Forged in Smoke

Forged in Smoke

Forged in Smoke (Red-Hot SEALs, #3)Forged in Smoke by Trish McCallan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Forged in Smoke by Trish McCallan
5 stars

This book is a wild ride of adventure, suspense, discredited SEALs, world wide conspiracy and the women who fall for them as well as Native Americans with special abiities. This book can easily be read as a stand alone but I think most readers are going to be like me and will want to read the first two books. This book begins as the battle ground clears from the end of the second book. The connection between Faith, the scientist, and Rawls, the SEAL, is intense. So strong that you don't realize that they haven't even managed a kiss for over a third of the book. Readers looking for a lot of hot sex aren't going to find it here but they will find a hero and heroine who have secrets that they needto share so everyone lives as well as secrets they need to share with eahother.
I fully enjoyed this book and enough backstory is provided to make it easy to follow. At the same time this is a fast paced action story with tunnels, escape hatches, bombings, and everyone coming out the other side alive. I read it in one sitting because I just couldn't put it down. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a wellwritten, intense adventure romance. I received this book free from the publisher on netgalley.com in exchange for a fair and honest review.
